Zo veel zelfs dat hij in twee films tweemaal zichzelf speelde. In 1991 deed hij dat als tweeling in <em>Double Impact<\/em>, en in 1996 deed hij dat over met <em>Maximum Risk<\/em>. Weliswaar met een pak minder succes, want na een heleboel populaire actiefilms, werd <em>Maximum Risk <\/em>een van de eerste JCVD-films die de bioscoop niet haalde en in heel veel landen een direct-to-video release werd. En dat zou zo zijn voor al zijn volgende films.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nochtans was het de eerste film die Van Damme voor Sony mocht draaien. De maatschappij zag de bui al hangen bij de titelkeuze. Eerst zou die <em>The Exchange<\/em> heten, maar Sony vond dat geen goede keuze voor een actiefilm. Wie zichzelf anderhalf uur wil besparen, doet er niks verkeerd aan om deze tien minuten op YouTube te bekijken, want de straatraces zijn top, en hoewel minder spectaculair, doen ze denken aan die van <em>Ronin<\/em>. Na vijf minuten zien we een morsdode Van Damme op de motorkap van een Renault liggen, terwijl hij vijf minuten later op zijn eigen begrafenis staat. Of toch niet, want de agent Alain Moreau (Van Damme) blijkt een tweelingbroer gehad te hebben die hij nooit heeft gekend, omdat zijn moeder niet het geld had om voor twee kinderen te zorgen. Zijn dode broer is Mikhail Suverov, waarvan alle sporen naar de Russische maffia leiden. Moreau wil er het fijne van weten, reist af naar Little Odessa in New York en ontmoet er de mooie Alex (Natasha Henstridge).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Zoals zo vaak bij zijn films ligt het probleem niet bij Jean-Claude Van Damme die gewoon doet wat die moet doen. Wel zit de Belgische spierbundel in een film met een wel zeer krakkemikkig scenario, waarvan het lijkt alsof alles gedubd is.
