Het is dan ook \u00e9\u00e9n van de labels waarbij je veel de term &#8220;blind buy&#8221; ziet verschijnen. Dat blind vertrouwen niet altijd zo&#8217;n goede zaak is bewijst&nbsp;<em>Deadly Manor<\/em>. Het enige waarop de film zich kan beroepen is de naam van de regisseur: Jos\u00e9 Ram\u00f3n Larraz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Een Spaanse regisseur van horror- en erotische films die ook films uitbracht onder het pseudoniem Joseph Braunstein en bekend werd met titels als\u00a0<em>Symptoms<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Whirlpool<\/em>\u00a0en\u00a0<em>The Coming Of Sin<\/em>. Wie nood heeft om deze te zien kan alweer bij Arrow terecht, want het Britse label heeft naast een paar losse releases ook nog een box van de man op de markt gebracht. <br><br>Een naam dus die wel iets betekent in cultmiddens en van wie je zou verwachten dat hij toch enig vakmanschap levert, maar dat komt nooit tot uiting in zijn voorlaatste film\u00a0<em>Deadly Manor<\/em>, die niet meer is dan een amateuristische slasher. Het kijkt wel onderhoudend weg, maar het verhaal wankelt langs alle kanten en de acteerprestaties zijn wel zeer ondermaats. Het is dan ook een film die niet meer dan een product is. Niet dat Jos\u00e9 Ram\u00f3n Larraz dat zelf ook vond want hij was zo tevreden over zijn film dat hij aan actrice Jennifer Delora beloofde dat hij een sequel zou maken. Hij had er zelfs een titel voor in zijn hoofd:\u00a0<em>Amanda&#8217;s Revenge<\/em>. Liefhebbers van het genre zullen de vrouw onwaarschijnlijk wel kennen. Misschien uit verboden vruchten als\u00a0<em>Electric Blue<\/em>\u00a0of gewoon uit B-films zoals\u00a0<em>Robot Holocaust<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Young Nurses In Love<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Frankenhooker\u00a0<\/em>of\u00a0<em>Suburban Commando<\/em>. Ze maakte vooral veel films met Chuck Vincent, \u00e9\u00e9n voor \u00e9\u00e9n titels die in de videotheken achter de gordijntjes werden verkocht. Maar af en toe werd ze ook wel opgemerkt door mensen buiten het genre zoals Jos\u00e9 Ram\u00f3n Larraz, ook al was het voor Jennifer DeLora niet meer dan een job en gaat ze er prat op dat ze de scripts die ze toegezonden kreeg niet eens las. Maar goed, voor Jennifer DeLora is\u00a0<em>Deadly Manor<\/em>\u00a0het beste waar ze ooit in te zien was. Wat dus ook wel iets zegt over die andere titels van haar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Het verhaal is zo clich\u00e9 dat we het niet eens uit de doeken willen doen. Een groep tieners rijden verloren, pikken een lifter op en komen bij een verlaten landshuis aan. Inderdaad,\u00a0<em>The Texas Chainsaw Massacre<\/em>\u00a0rip-off. Geen zot met een cirkelzaag deze keer, maar gewoon iemand die met een mes zijn slachtoffers keelt. Op zich is dat niet meer dan wat je van een slasher verwacht, maar hier moet je wel wachten tot het allerlaatste kwartier en krijg je eerst een verhaal te horen dat noch kant noch wal raakt en wat afgewisseld wordt met bloot vlees. Het was dus duidelijk dat men die Jennifer DeLora ook voor iets anders nodig had dan voor haar &#8220;acteertalent&#8221;.
