In <em>Silent Night<\/em>, zijn eerste film in twintig jaar, bakt de ondertussen 77-jarige cineast het wel zeer bruin. Eerst en vooral is dit een kerst-actiefilm inclusief dwaze kersttruien, afgezaagde kerstliederen maar ook (jawel!) flashbacks via kerstballen. Anderzijds is het ook omdat Woo&#8217;s terugkeer naar het witte doek een stomme film is geworden waarin geen woord gezegd wordt omdat de vigilante van dienst een kogel door de stembanden heeft gekregen en daardoor niet meer kan praten. Technisch gezien een moedige beslissing, maar te oordelen naar de buzz rond de film ook wel een beetje commerci\u00eble zelfmoord. Brian Godlock (Joel Kinnaman, de Zweed die ons sinds de onnodige remake van<em> Robocop<\/em> alleen maar rommel bezorgde) is een elektricien die een gelukkig leven leidt in het fictieve stadje Las Palomas met zijn vrouw Saya (Catalina Sandino Moreno in 2004 nog goed voor een Zilveren Beer voor het nu helaas vergeten <em>Maria Full of Grace<\/em>). Alles gaat goed tot zijn zoontje getroffen wordt door een verdwaalde kogel afkomstig van een schietpartij tussen rivaliserende gangsterbendes. De stoppen slaan bij Robert door en wraak is de enige optie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John Woo beheerst nog steeds de knepen van het vak als het gaat om actiesc\u00e8nes die soms doen denken aan de adrenalinestoten van<em> H4Z4RD <\/em>van Jonas Govaerts, maar helaas is het concept van Silent Night veel te eenzijdig &#8211; en vooral te ridicuul en saai &#8211; om te overtuigen.
