Akkoord, maar <em>Call Girl<\/em> is wel de uitstekende verfilming van het ophefmakende politieke- en prostitutieschandaal uit de Scandinavische geschiedenis. Het drama speelt zich af in Stockholm anno 1976, het tijdstip waarop de uit de upper-class afkomstige sociaaldemocratische politicus Olof Palme premier is.<br><br>Enkele dagen voor het einde van de verkiezingen ziet het er naar uit dat de Sociaal Democraten voor het eerst in jaren niet aan de macht zullen komen. De paniek binnen de politieke rangen ontploft pas echt als rechercheur John Sandberg verschillende vooraanstaande politici met afdoend bewijsmateriaal linkt aan een loens prostitutienetwerk onder leiding van de oppermachtige Dagmar Glans. Zo raakt ook de 14-jarige Iris hopeloos verzeild in het corrupte en nefaste wereldje waar macht de regels bepaalt. Wat begint als een avontuur voor de meisjes en de politici, verandert al snel voor alle betrokkenen in een claustrofobische nachtmerrie.<br><br><em>Call Girl<\/em> is een heel straffe paranoia-thriller die aangrijpt omdat hij integraal is gebaseerd op waargebeurde feiten die bovendien in doeltreffende sepia-beelden van de Nederlandse Hoyte Van Hoytema &#8211; sinds <em>Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy<\/em> d\u00e9 meester van rauwe authentieke sfeer &#8211; worden gevat. <br><br>De deskundige manier waarop de politieke machinaties worden blootgelegd, de indringende retro-soundtrack en de overtuigende vertolkingen van Pernilla August als de hooker-patrones en de debuterende Sofia Karemyr die het jonge en dubbel \u2018misbruikte\u2019 meisje incarneert, doen de rest. Een controversi\u00eble sc\u00e8ne werd op vraag van Olof Palme\u2019s familie uit de film gehaald. Regisseur Mikael Marcimain (van de<em> Wallander<\/em>-serie) heeft zich altijd geweerd tegen een mogelijke censuur van zijn film, maar zijn protest mocht niet baten. Lumi\u00e8re, de Belgische distributeur van <em>Call Girl<\/em>, was destijds (terecht) niet akkoord met deze beslissing en daarom werd in ons land de ongecensureerde versie vertoond.
