Demi Moore en Woody Harrelson, bekend als acteurs \u00e9n activisten, leenden hun stem aan de film om hem wat verkoopbaarder te maken. Regisseur Laura Steinberg volgde gedurende twee jaar verschillende plekken in de wereld waar regeneratieprojecten werden opgestart. Door monocultuur en industri\u00eble landbouw droogde de bodem uit, waardoor die steeds meer opwarmde. Het doel van de projecten is CO2 opnieuw in de grond op te slaan zodat die meer water kan vasthouden. Die boodschap wordt echter nogal repetitief en overdreven optimistisch gebracht, waardoor de documentaire impact mist.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De Mexicaanse acteur Diego Luna leverde als regisseur een interessant portret af van Mexicaanse immigratie naar Spanje. In <em>Ceniza En La Boca <\/em>volgt hij de negentienjarige Ceniza, een jonge vrouw uit de arbeiderswijk La Boca in Mexico-Stad die probeert te ontsnappen aan een gespannen thuissituatie. Haar moeder vluchtte jaren eerder al naar Madrid. Wanneer Ceniza haar als volwassen vrouw vervoegt, krijgt ze plots de zorg voor haar veertienjarige broertje op haar schouders. Het kind lijdt echter onder heimwee naar Mexico en voelt zich totaal verloren. Zijn enige houvast is Ceniza, maar die wil vooral haar eigen leven leiden en trekt naar Barcelona. Een tragedie dwingt haar uiteindelijk terug naar Mexico te reizen, waar duidelijk wordt waarom veel Mexicanen uit de lagere klasse hun land willen ontvluchten. Luna filmt Mexico-Stad niet als exotische postkaart maar als een verstikkende plek waar racisme, extreemrechts geweld en sociale chaos voortdurend onder de oppervlakte sluimeren. En hij duurt slechts 75 minuten, wat in Cannes bijna uniek is. Competitiefilms duren hier meestal langer dan twee uur en sommige regisseurs vinden het tegenwoordig blijkbaar noodzakelijk om zelfs voorbij de drie uur te gaan. In prachtig zwart-wit toont Pawlikowski de reis van schrijver en Nobelprijswinnaar Thomas Mann door het Duitsland van 1949. Hij wordt daarbij vergezeld door zijn dochter Erika (Sandra H\u00fcller). Mann moet in West-Duitsland een prijs in ontvangst nemen ter ere van Goethe, maar beslist om &#8211; uit democratische overtuiging -ook het door de Sovjets bezette deel van Duitsland te bezoeken. Langzaam wordt echter duidelijk dat beide kampen hem vooral als propagandamiddel willen gebruiken. De reis wordt bovendien overschaduwd door de dood van Klaus, de zoon van Thomas Mann en schrijver van Mephisto. In wezen gaat <em>Fatherland<\/em> over een ontheemde intellectueel die zijn idealisme langzaam ziet wegsmelten. Sober, intelligent en erg knap gemaakt. Farhadi situeert zijn verhaal in Parijs, waar een asociale en ziekelijke schrijfster (Isabelle Huppert) haar overburen bespioneert om inspiratie te vinden voor een nieuwe roman. Ze verzint daarbij een compleet verhaal dat nauwelijks iets met de waarheid te maken heeft. Haar jonge assistent raakt gefascineerd door die fictieve constructies en begint de relaties tussen de overburen (Virginie Efira, Vincent Cassel en Pierre Niney) langzaam te vergiftigen. Uiteindelijk beginnen de grenzen tussen fantasie en werkelijkheid volledig te vervagen. Het scenario is bijzonder knap geschreven, al zijn sommige wendingen niet altijd even geloofwaardig. Dat heeft er ook mee te maken dat Farhadi alles opvallend kuis houdt. Deze film had pervers sexy moeten zijn, maar is dat nauwelijks.
