De facts en figures van de 97ste Academy Awards:
- Anora werd de grote winnaar met 5 beeldjes (beste film, beste regie, beste hoofdactrice, beste originele script en beste montage).
- The Brutalist viel driemaal in de prijzen (beste hoofdacteur, beste cinematografie en beste score). Wicked en Dune: Part Two wonnen beide 2 technische awards.
- Na het debacle rond Karla Sofía Gascón – die toch aanwezig was op de uitreiking – kon Emilia Pérez nog slechts 2 van de 13 nominaties verzilveren. Zoe Saldaña won voor de beste vrouwelijke bijrol en El Mal werd bekroond tot beste song.
- Kieran Culkin werd verkozen tot beste acteur in een bijrol en zou dat wel eens in bed gevierd kunnen hebben. Zijn vrouw had hem een derde kind beloofd als hij een award won voor A Real Pain en zelfs 2 extra kinderen als het een Oscar zou zijn.
- De Belgische inzendingen Beautiful Men en Soundtrack to a Coup d’État bleven met lege handen achter, maar we kunnen ons nog troosten met enkele Belgische coproducties die in de prijzen vielen. Zo won Flow de Academy Award voor beste animatiefilm en onze Noorderburen zagen I’m Not a Robot gelauwerd worden als beste kortfilm.
- Beautiful Men verloor van het Iraanse In the Shadow of the Cypress, maar het zou ons verbazen als het gestuntel met hun speech niet tot een echtelijke ruzie achteraf zou leiden. Dat was even een pijnlijke vertoning.
- Ook The Academy stuntelde door Gene Hackman nog op te nemen in de in memoria, maar Michelle Trachtenberg niet meer.
- Ook al opende presentator Conan O’Brien met een musicalnummer over het strikt bewaken van de tijd, toch liep de show maar liefst 1 uur uit.
- Harrison Ford moest op de valreep annuleren met gordelroos. Zelfs de groten der aarde worden ziek.
